For those of you who don’t know me, outlined below is a brief description.
I am a born and bred escarpment man. Meandering trout streams, craggy peaks, pine trees and education run in my blood. I am married to Amalia (she grew up in the Letsitele area) and we have two daughters, Auguste and Maretha. We are also grandparents to Salma. My late father was an excellent Mathematics teacher. Amalia is the Limpopo and Mpumalanga rep for Afro School Books.
I completed my initial training at NWU (Potchefstroom) and my teaching subjects are History and Afrikaans. I have also completed a Masters Degree in Languages at Wits University and Honours in Training and Development at UJ.
I have substantial experience in both the public and independent school sector and have served in various professional organisations. Prior to my career at Stanford Lake College, I was the Head of Roodepoort High School (1997-2002) and Leeuwenhof (Bedfordview) (2003-2007). I am privileged to have an extensive network of principals and educators in secondary state and private schools.
Coming back to similar surroundings to where I grew up after a long career in Johannesburg schools is indeed a privilege. After almost a year, my family and I have settled nicely and we count our blessings daily. We are extremely fond of our mountain, the community and the inclement weather.
My areas of expertise are change management and the transformation of educational institutions into centres of learning excellence. I am proactive and action-oriented and like to challenge the status quo with a keen sense of independent thinking. I am both flexible and pragmatic.
Fly fishing, hunting, sport and reading good literature are all passions of mine. And I am an avid Bulls supporter!
Our aspiration is to enhance the unique SLC brand through continuous efficiency and productivity improvements, to concentrate on academic rigour and to refine our competitive edge in the fields of academics, adventure, sports and cultural activities.
I believe at the heart of it all is:
- Proud and happy students, writing the future book of our college through their best efforts and commitment;
- A well managed, informed, and fit-for-job workforce, teachers who are willing to walk the extra mile for their students;
- Supportive, active and satisfied parents;
- A Board seeking to guide, support and direct the executive, who has to have enough space to execute strategy on a daily basis.
The benefits for achieving this are immense: for us teachers, they include wider scope for career growth and the pride of working for a growing school; for our students and parents it offers appropriate capacity to meet your demands and to fulfil your own personal growth ambitions.
We need to continue being focused, disciplined, diligent, results-oriented and show absolute integrity in our work.
I have dedicated my life to working with children and would do it again if I had the opportunity. |
